The manufacturer suggested flow rates are for factory rated disinfection. Pond UV sterilizers for clarification are not nearly as restrictive as factory disinfection ratings, therefore there is an acceptable flow rate for clarification included in this table. To take it one step further we have included the approximate "mws" ratings at flow. Many companies would not nearly go to this length to fully express the effectiveness of disinfection vs. clarification. Mostly, because they may not know the difference. The header page for our UV sterilizers has gone to great detail to inform you of the necessary mws for prevalent pathogens.
Size your pump and choose a sterilizer in consideration of the friction loss of your plumbing system to deliver an appropriate amount of gallonage somewhere between the Suggested GPH and the Acceptable GPH.
